Audition Excerpts are now available for Advanced Orchestra for Winter quarter. In addition to the excerpts, you will need to know your C,G,and D Major scales in two octaves. Fingerings for the scales are available on the audition page. Don’t hesitate to call me or e-mail if you need help. I teach private lessons on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from my home in Stillwater. Any Crosswinds student preparing auditions can receive a free lesson in my home studio if they wish.
Auditions will take place after school on Thursday, December 1st. There is no afterschool busing available during the first week of the quarter, so students must provide their own transportation..
You can download the excerpts for all instruments below. If the download doesn’t start automatically, then control-click (Mac) or right-click (Windows) and choose “Save Link As.” Excerpts for every instrument are part of one packet, so be sure to print and practice the correct excerpts for your instrument!
The fastest three minutes in Crosswinds Orchestra History. Fun video…but don’t blink or you might miss yourself!

Thanks everyone for a great retreat weekend at Camp St. Croix this weekend. We worked hard, accomplished a huge amount, and had a great time. 32 students participated in the retreat at the YMCA camp for the weekend.
This was the first orchestra retreat we’ve had at Crosswinds – but I think all of us that were there would agree: it definitely shouldn’t be the last!
Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication this weekend. And thanks to all of the parents, Crosswinds administration, and YMCA Camp staff who helped to make the retreat possible. Special thanks to Ms. Greupner, Ms. Marget, Ms. Lindquist, and Ms. Hall for their help and participation as chaperones. You were awesome!
Three more great challenges took place at the end of last week. Fantastic playing and wonderful preparation by all players involved made for some very tough challenge decisions. Congratulations to Anna for winning the principal viola chair in Orchestra II, Phoua-who successfully defended her Orchestra I concertmaster seat, and Monica, who moved up in the Orchestra II cello section.
Cogratulations on the challenge winners today (more challenges tomorrow!).
In Orchestra II: Payeng, Abby, and Veronica (who may not hate the challenge box quite so much anymore).
In Orchestra I: Mya, Haleigh, and Marquel (scary how fast she’s moving).
Great job everyone. No losers today. You are all awesome. Great playing and great preparation. I am so proud to be working with you. Thanks to everyone who challenged… when you push, we reach higher!
Super excited for the rest of this year, and for the retreat this weekend!
